Collision closes road, injures motorcyclist
DURHAM – An early morning collision closed North Duke Street on Sunday morning between Horton and Holt School road.
A motorcycle and pickup truck collided about 6 a.m. resulting in the road closure.
Durham Police Department officials said that there were no fatalities but the motorcyclist was taken to the hospital to be treated for critical injuries.
No additional information was available. The names of the two drivers have not been released.

In other crime:
• Shermaine Hammond, 19, of Mimosa Street in Durham, was arrested and charged with resisting a public officer and possession of a stolen firearm. According to the arrest warrant, Hammond ran from the vehicle during a traffic stop and was found to have a 9 mm handgun in his possession. It was later discovered that the handgun had been stolen. Hammond was being held with a $40,000 secured bond.
• Dwight Allan Judd Jr., 24, of Eva Street in Durham, was arrested and charged with simple possession of a schedule VI controlled substance. He was being held with a $7,000 secured bond.
• Dante Joran Snipes, 19, of Birmingham Avenue in Durham, was arrested and charged with breaking and/or entering, larceny after breaking/entering and injury to real property after allegedly taking rings and a glass mannequin hand from a residence on Booker Avenue on Jan. 13. The items were valued at $2,020. The front door of the residence was destroyed. Snipes was being held with a $10,000 secured bond.
• Zachary Paul Richardson, 23, of Newgate Court in Durham, was arrested and charged with having a gun on education property after being accused of having a 9 mm handgun on N.C. Central University’s campus Saturday. He was being held with a $25,000 secured bond.
• Jamario Devon Owens, 23, of Franklin Street in Durham, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a schedule VI controlled substance. He was being held with a $3,000 secured bond.
• Saul Rodriguez, 16, and Cesar Agusto-Rodriguez, 17, both of Cook Road in Durham, were arrested and charged with shoplifting concealment of goods, misdemeanor conspiracy and misdemeanor larceny after allegedly conspiring together and concealing clothing in Macy’s on Fayetteville Road. The clothing was valued at $201 combined. Rodriguez was being held with a $2,000 secured bond. Agusto-Rodriguez was being held with a $1,000 secured bond.
• Orlanda Ramon Lee, 39, of Angier Avenue in Durham, was arrested and charged with felony possession of cocaine. He was being held without a bond.
• Jarrod Jabri Grandison, 21, of Guess Road, was arrested and charged with assault on a female after allegedly slapping a woman in the mouth and biting her cheek. He was being held without a bond.
• Reginald Devon Richardson, 40, of Rosedale Avenue, was arrested and charged with domestic violence protective order violation after being accused of going to the residence of the woman who had a protective order out against him, waiting on her porch then entering the home. He was being held without a bond.
• Jesse Edward Harris Jr., 44, of Commonwealth Street in Durham, was arrested and charged with assault on a female and resisting a public officer after being accused of kicking a woman in her stomach and fleeing from the arresting officer. He was being held without a bond.
• Mervin Upchurch, 68, of Commons Boulevard in Durham, was arrested and charged with assault on a female after allegedly punching a woman in the head, knocking her to the ground. He was being held without a bond.
• Deangelous Pierce, 29, of West Enterprise Street in Durham, was arrested and charged with assault on a female and communicating threats after being accused of head butting a woman in the face and saying to her “if you are messing with your ex I’m going to kill you.” Stemming from an April 2 incident, Pierce was also charged with breaking and/or entering, injury to personal property, domestic criminal trespassing and an additional charge of assault on a female after allegedly dragging the same woman from her bed by her hair and punching her in the back of the head and kicking her in the leg after breaking into the residence. The front door was damaged during the incident. According to the arrest warrant, Pierce remained on the property after being order to leave by the woman. He was being held without a bond.
