Durham man jailed after police chase
Apr. 11, 2014 @ 07:04 PM

Sheriff’s deputies arrested 24-year-old Rashad Ahmad Adams after a vehicle chase through East Durham late Thursday afternoon.

Deputy Paul Sherwin, spokesman for the Durham County Sheriff’s Office, said Adams, of Adlett Lane in Durham, refused to stop his Honda Civic after deputies tried to pull him over near U.S. Highway 98 and Lynn Road.

Adams wrecked at the intersection of Holder and Broach roads, then fled on foot, deputies reported. He was found about eight minutes later near woods in the 1100 block of Pennock Road.

No one was hurt in the chase and only the Civic suffered property damage, Sherwin said.

Investigators wanted to stop Adams because they were investigating sales of stolen firearms and narcotics. During their investigation, they found a .44 magnum Bounty Hunter revolver that was reported stolen in Raleigh in December. They also confiscated some marijuana, scales and packaging materials at Adams’ home while serving a search warrant.

Adams faced a murder charge in 2011 in connection with the death of James Holsclaw – a charge that ultimately was dismissed. That case remains open and unsolved, Sherwin said.

Adams was charged in this incident with fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon and resisting arrest.

He was held in the Durham County Jail under $251,000 bond.
