Firefighter suffers burns battling blaze
A Durham firefighter was burned early Thursday fighting a house fire, officials said.
He was treated at Duke University Hospital for second-degree burns to the backs of his hands and released later in the day.
Firefighters were called at 12:37 a.m. to the fire at 2405 E. Weaver St. in south-central Durham, Deputy Chief Chris Iannuzzi of the Durham Fire Department said.
Flames engulfed the front of the single-story house when firefighters arrived.
Two adults escaped without injury.
The fire was extinguished quickly and contained to the front of the house, where a porch was being built, Iannuzzi said.
Fire investigators were trying to determine the fire’s cause Thursday.
Twenty-six firefighters responded and were on the scene for two hours.
