Human skeleton found in woods
A human skeleton was found Sunday in a wooded area in western Durham, and police are trying to identify the person.
Officers were called at 10:17 a.m. Sunday to woods on Morreene Road, near the intersection of Neal Road close to Hillsborough Road, to investigate a report of skeletal remains.
Kammie Michael, spokeswoman for the Durham Police Department, confirmed Monday that the remains were of a human. She said the person’s identity has not yet been determined.
After partial human remains were found initially, a Durham County sheriff’s deputy was called to the scene, and his cadaver dog found more skeletal parts in the woods.
There was no word Monday on whether police suspect foul play.
