Mother of missing children turns self in
A mother who allegedly abducted her two children turned herself in to Carrboro police Tuesday evening after Durham police issued a plea for their return.
Police had tried earlier Tuesday to locate the children, ages 5 and 6. They said Daniel Isai Banegas Diaz and Jeremias Isaac Banegas Diaz were taken by their mother, Selma Diaz, who does not have legal custody of them.
The children had last been seen Tuesday morning in the parking lot of Hillandale Elementary School.
Durham police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said both children were with their mother, unharmed, when Diaz contacted the Carrboro Police Department and turned herself in.
Michael said warrants were issued charging her with felony abduction of children.
