A group of men, one of them armed with a pistol, broke into a house on Olde Coach Road in Durham this morning and robbed the occupant, according to Durham County sheriff’s investigators.

The victim, a man in his early 20s, was in bed in an upstairs room at 9:15 a.m. when he heard a loud crashing downstairs. Soon, another man entered the bedroom and held him at gunpoint while accomplices searched the house for valuables.

The suspects left minutes later with several electronics, including the victim’s cellphone. They fled in a silver sedan, investigators said. The victim wasn’t hurt. He used a neighbor’s phone to call 911 after the suspects left.

Sheriff’s investigators believe the victim’s residence was selected at random and the suspects did not know anyone was home when they decided to break in.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Sheriff’s Investigations Division at 919-560-0880 or Durham CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200. CrimeStoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrest and prosecution in felony crimes and callers never have to identify themselves.
