Warehouse fire called arson
An arsonist set fire around midday Wednesday to a pile of debris at a vacant warehouse in East Durham, fire officials said. No one was hurt.
City firefighters were called about noon to the 8,000-square-foot warehouse at 303 Highway 70 Service Road near South Hoover Road and Holloway Street, Deputy Chief Chris Iannuzzi of the Durham Fire Department said.
Firefighters found a large pile of debris in the middle of the building that had been intentionally set on fire.
The blaze was extinguished in a few minutes. Damage was minimal, and an investigation is underway, Iannuzzi said.
Twenty-seven firefighters responded.
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the Durham Fire Department at 919-560-4242.
