Man arrested in October shooting

DURHAM – Juan Manola Monk, 27, of Ridgeland Drive in Durham was arrested Saturday and charged in connection with a shooting last month at Holloway Street and Briggs Avenue.

That incident, which happened Oct. 14 in a crime-reduction zone known as the Bull’s Eye, left a 39-year-old man badly hurt, police said.

Monk is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, assault by pointing a gun and discharging a firearm in the city limits. He was held in the Durham County Jail under $350,000 bond.

Pizza driver reports robbery

DURHAM – A 24-year-old Papa John’s driver told police he was robbed Oct. 27.

He was in the 900 block of Bengel Drive about 8:15 p.m. when three male suspects robbed him at gunpoint, said police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.

The thieves made off with $8 cash, three medium pizzas and three cookies.

No arrests had been made in the case as of Wednesday.

Robber makes off with Dollar General cash

DURHAM – The man walked into the Dollar General on Ganyard Farm Way on Oct. 27 and asked the clerk for cigarettes.

But then he pulled a knife and demanded money, police said.

He took $381.85 cash, a report indicated.

No one was injured. No arrests had been made in the case as of Wednesday.

In other crime:

-- A resident in the 2100 block of Chapel Hill Road reported a burglary Oct. 27. Thieves made off with four Franck watches, an Armani tuxedo, an Aliess watch, five leather coats, three bracelets and six works of art, including what is described in the police report as “a huge turtle.”

-- A resident in the 900 block of Parkridge Road on Oct. 30 reported a burglary. Stolen items included a Toshiba laptop computer, two Aldo watches, a Panasonic television and two bottles of Polo cologne.

-- A resident in the 3500 block of Dixon Road on Oct. 29 reported a burglary. Thieves stole more than $5,000 worth of tools and equipment, including several saws, 100 various hand tools, three extension cords, a nail-gun compressor, two ladders and a refrigerator.

-- Ralph Louis Mitchell, 49, of Gilbert Street in Durham was arrested Tuesday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and communicating threats. He was held in the Durham County Jail under $3,000 bond.

-- Kevin Desmar Royster, 25, of Evergreen Street in Durham was arrested Tuesday and charged with assault by pointing a gun and communicating threats. He was released from the Durham County Jail after posting $5,000 bond.

-- Richard Thomas Royster, 70, of Red Oak Avenue in Durham was arrested Tuesday and charged with communicating threats and assault on a female. He was held in the Durham County Jail under $1,500 bond.

-- Rontel Royster, 23, of Torain Street in Hillsborough was arrested Tuesday and charged with identity theft and driving while license revoked. He was held in the Durham County Jail under $9,500 bond.

-- Courtney Genine Sparrow, 24, of Greensboro, was arrested Tuesday and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, financial card fraud, obtaining property under false pretense and marijuana possession. She was held in the Durham County Jail under $259,000 bond.
