McDougald Terrace holds coat drive for neighborhood children

Felicia Quinn has noticed that as it gets colder, many of the children walking around her neighborhood still go without coats. They stuff their arms in their shirts, a feeble attempt to keep warm as the temperatures drop.

McDougald Terrace, a large public housing community off Lawson Street, is home to about 250 children, said Quinn, president of the neighborhood’s Resident Council.

“Some are walking around with no jackets, no socks or nothing,” she said.

The McDougald Terrace Resident Council is kicking off a coat drive this holiday season and is looking for new or used coats that would fit newborns to 18-year-olds.

The community also seeks toy donations to pass out to children at its annual Christmas celebration, which will be held Dec. 21 and includes hot meals, toys and snack bags for McDougald Terrace families.

To donate, call Quinn at 919-641-9962 to schedule a pick-up/drop-off time.
