Police charge teen in trail incidents

Durham Police investigators have arrested and charged Justin Sturn, 17, of Durham with simple assault, common law robbery, and felony conspiracy in connection to incidents that occurred on the American Tobacco Trail in June.

The incidents occurred June 5 and June 6. One victim was punched in the face. Another was assaulted and had his book bag, cellphone and iPod stolen.

Sturn is being held on on a $75,000 bond.

In announcing the charges against Sturn, the police department said it continues to monitor the American Tobacco Trail. To those using the trail, it offered these safety safety and crime prevention tips:

-- Be aware of your surroundings at all times

-- Walk in well-lit areas that are not isolated

-- Be aware of your surroundings

-- If you are being followed, get away fast, change directions and head toward a safe location.
