Durham police have ended their investigation into a sexual assault that was reported this week after determining the case was unfounded, according to police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.

On Wednesday, the Durham Police Department said investigators no longer believed the incident happened on Hope Valley Road.

The original report to police officers said the assault happened just after midnight on Tuesday on the 4700 block of Hope Valley Road.
