Chapel Hill man killed in Virginia bus crash
Doval Emmanuel Watson, a 58-year-old trustee at St. Paul’s AME Church in Chapel Hill, died Friday morning after the charter bus he was riding in overturned on a rural Virginia road.
The Associated Press reported that Watson’s wife, Theresa, was critically injured and flown to Norfolk General Hospital.
The Watsons apparently had organized a church trip from Chapel Hill to Hampton University for an open house this weekend.
None of the six teens – ages 13 to 17 – aboard the bus were hurt. The bus driver, Larry Brocks of Raleigh, was charged with reckless driving. The bus belonged to Seattle-based Horizon Coach Lines. Brocks, 62, also was taken to Norfolk General Hospital.
State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya told the AP that the driver lost control, ran off the road and overturned in a ditch on U.S. 58 in Capron.
