Murder suspect faces additional charges
A Chatham County grand jury indicted Caleb Wyland, 26, of 3400 Carl Durham Road, Chapel Hill, with first-degree kidnapping, accessory after the fact to first-degree kidnapping and accessory after the fact to first-degree murder.
He was jailed under a $500,000 secured bond, and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on Oct. 14.
Wyland was charged along with his roommate, Brian Keith Whitfield, with the murder of Daphne Marie Forster. Her burning body was found near Chicken Bridge in Chatham County on Oct. 10, 2012.
Last month, Whitfield pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison. He told attorneys that he alone killed Forster after he argued with her at his home on Carl Durham Road in Orange County.
Security video, however, showed that Wyland was with Whitfield after the murder when they left Forster's car at an old motel in Durham, setting the car up so it would likely be stolen.
