Driver, 16, critically hurt in northern Durham wreck
A teen was in critical condition Thursday after the car he was driving hit a tree in northern Durham and firefighters had to extricate him.
Noah Bacon, 16, of Durham, was driving a Kia Soul west on Goodwin Road toward Roxboro Road about 7:23 a.m. when he lost control of the car in a curve near Bonnie Drive, Durham police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said.
The Kia crossed the centerline and went into a yard in the 300 block of Goodwin Road, she said. The car started to rotate and the driver’s door hit a tree.
Bacon was trapped in the car and extricated by Durham firefighters. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of critical injuries.
Michael said it did not appear Thursday that the accident was weather-related. She said there was no indication that Bacon was speeding.
Bacon was on his way to school when the accident happened, she said. He is a student at Roxboro Community School in Roxboro.
