New leader for Hillside New Tech High School
Tounya Clayton Wright has been named director of Hillside New Tech High School.
Wright was appointed to the post by the Durham Public Schools Board of Education on Oct. 25.
She previously served as the assistant principal for curriculum and instruction at Hillside High School.
Wright began her education career as an elementary school counselor and principal intern at C.C. Spaulding Elementary.
She has a master’s in agency counseling, along with licenses in school administration and academically/intellectually gifted education, from N.C. Central University.
Hillside New Tech High School is a small, STEM-based high school.
Established in 2007, the school is designed to offer an alternative to the traditional high school experience and provide students with a uniquely different learning environment.
Hillside New Tech High School enjoyed a 100 percent graduation rate for the Class of 2013.
