Two killed, two injured in crash
An accident Saturday night in northern Orange County claimed the lives of two teenagers and put two others in the hospital, N.C. Highway Patrol troopers say.
The accident happened about 10:33 pm when a Ford F-250 pickup truck ran off one side of Little River Church Road coming out of a curve. The driver overcorrected and ran off the other side. The truck hit a mailbox and then a tree, Trooper Greg Ingram said.
Dead at the scene were William-Daniel Chase Underhill, 16, of Durham, and Kacie Chamberlain, 16, of the Rougemont area.
The injured teens, McCray Williams, 15, and Sam Whaley, 16, were taken to Duke University Medical Center.
Ingram said investigators believe excessive speed for conditions was a factor in the crash.
None of the victims was wearing a seatbelt. Three were ejected from the truck by the impact; the fourth was partially ejected.
Ingram couldn’t say who was driving, as that question “is actually still up for investigation.”
