Ex-boyfriend shot after break-in
DURHAM – Police said a man was shot in the arm after he allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment.
Ricky Lynn Yates, 40, was arrested Tuesday and charged with misdemeanor breaking and entering and damage to property. More charges are pending.
Police said the shooting happened at 12:58 a.m. Tuesday in Apt. 102 at 500 Falls Pointe Drive.
Officers said they found Yates shot in the upper left arm. He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The case is being investigated by the Durham Police Department’s Domestic Violence Unit.
Man arrested in murder attempt
DURHAM – U.S. marshals arrested a Durham man Tuesday wanted on attempted murder and other charges.
Members of the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force arrested Demario Martin, 37, of Walton Street on Seven Oaks Road. He was in the Durham County Jail Tuesday night under a $1 million bond.
Officers responded to a shooting call in the parking lot of a convenience store in the 2900 block of Holloway Street shortly before 5:30 p.m. June 18. They later determined that the victim – a 36-year-old man – had been shot in the 3100 block of Hursey Street and drove himself to the convenience store to get help.
Martin is charged with attempted murder, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm into occupied property, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and discharging a weapon within city limits.
In other crime:
- Police arrested a man Tuesday in the theft of a large, $4,000 pig cooker that was stolen May 23 from the driveway of a home off Mineral Springs Road.
Raymond Lamont Bailey, 27, of Durham is charged with felony larceny and felony habitual larceny. He also was charged with felony larceny and felony habitual larceny in the April 26 theft of a trailer and 300 pounds of bricks from a driveway near Farrington Road.
- Shamonaka Peterson, 23, of Guess Road was arrested Saturday and charged with false imprisonment and simple assault.
- Jackie Short, 54, of Raynor Street was arrested June 28 and charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
- Stancil Lee Hall, 35, was arrested July 2 and charged with breaking and entering, habitual larceny and possession of stolen goods.
