Escaped juvenile turns self in
A juvenile who escaped from the Durham County Youth Home on Saturday turned himself in Sunday afternoon, according to the Durham County Sheriff’s Office.
The teenager, Darren D., was accompanied by his parents.
Dozens of police officers, sheriff’s deputies and K-9 units had been searching for Darren, 16, after he reportedly ran from the youth home on Broad Street early Saturday afternoon after scaling a fence and jumping from a rooftop to escape.
Darren, referred to only by his first name and last name initial because of state law on escaped juveniles, had been considered a danger to the public.
