Alleged litterer found hiding in stream
DURHAM – Police said a driver was arrested on littering and other charges after he fled a traffic stop and was found hiding in a stream.
Officer A.M. Giles of the Durham Police Department said in an arrest warrant that he stopped the driver, 28-year-old Behamin Rodrigez, early Monday morning for littering on U.S. 70 westbound near the Cheek Road exit.
Giles said Rodrigez ran from the traffic stop across four lanes of U.S. 70 through thick woods and hid in a stream, where he was arrested.
The officer said Rodrigez scattered litter that weighed between 15 and 500 pounds on U.S. 70 westbound, Cheek Road and Hardee Street.
He was charged with fleeing with a vehicle to elude arrest, resisting a public officer and unintentional littering.
Rodrigez, who lives on North Alston Avenue, is due in Durham County District Court Oct. 21. He was in the Durham County Jail Monday under a $3,000 bond.
