The Durham Diabetes Coalition is offering a free diabetes self-management program, Living Healthy with Diabetes. The six-week program is open to Durham County residents and begins Thursday. Participants will meet weekly at Stanford L. Warren Library from 1 to 3 p.m.
The program has been developed by Stanford University and aims to help participants learn about nutrition, exercise, communicating with doctors and using medications wisely.  Participants will also make weekly action plans, share experiences and help each other solve problems they face in their self-management care.
“This program gives adults living with type 2 diabetes the specific skills they need in order to manage their illness,” said Joyce Page, public health educator and co-instructor.
The program is part of an ongoing effort by the coalition to reduce injury and death from type 2 diabetes in Durham County. The coalition also presents self-management classes that focus on chronic disease.
To register for this workshop or for additional information about other chronic disease self-management or coalition programs, call Joyce Page at 919-560-7109 or visit the Durham Diabetes Coalition website. Registration ends Wednesday.
