Another arrest in break-in at officer’s home
DURHAM -- Durham police have charged Jorge Flores Benitez, 19, of Wendell with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and larceny of a dog in connection with the break-in and theft at the home of Durham police officer last week.
Benitez is also charged with committing a burglary March 26 on Glengary Court.
Police had arrested and charged Christopher Reina, 18, of Broad Street Thursday in connection with the Tuesday break-in.
While investigators have recovered most of the police equipment taken in the break-in, the officer’s puppy is also still missing.
A $350 reward is being offered for the safe return of the puppy in good condition. Anyone with information about the puppy is asked to call (919) 402-3809.
DURHAM – A Durham man was arrested after allegedly assaulting a woman twice within eight months.
Tony Carrington, 18, of Drew Street in Durham, was arrested Saturday and charged with assault on a female after being accused of punching the woman in the arm, side of the head and jaw.
Carrington is also accused of pulling the woman’s hair and pushing her down steps.
In September, Carrington was charged with assault on a female and battery of an unborn child for allegedly assaulting the same woman while she was 16 weeks pregnant as well as pushing her and kicking her in the stomach.
He was being held without a bond.
In other crime:
-- Calvin Lewis Jones 63, of Price Avenue in Durham was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and communicating threats after being accused of throwing a bronze vase at a man then hitting him in the shoulder with an aluminum baseball bat. Jones is also accused of yelling at the man, “I’ll kill you.” He was being held with a$2,500 bond.
-- Marcus Franklin McKenith, 32, of Thornton Knoll Way in Raleigh was arrested and charged with maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for a controlled substance and felony possession of cocaine. According to the arrest warrant, McKenith used his 1997 Chevy sedan to store crack cocaine. He was being held with a $3,500 secured bond.
-- Jerrad Alexander McPherson, 17, of Shay Drive in Durham was arrested and charged with felony possession of cocaine. He was being held with a $1,500 secured bond.
-- Spencer Jermon Thorpe, 31, of Gray Avenue in Durham was arrested and charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana, possession of marijuana up to half an ounce and possession of drug paraphernalia. Thorpe allegedly had 10 grams of marijuana in his possession along with cigar paper and plastic bags. He was being held with a $2,500 secured bond.
-- Beverly Renee Hester, 55, of Linwood Avenue in Durham, was arrested and charged with assault to inflict serious injury after being accused of hitting a man in the head with a glass bottle, causing deep lacerations to his head. Hester was being held with a $1,500 secured bond.
