East Durham fire displaces homeowner
Fire displaced the owner of an East Durham home Thursday, but no one was hurt.
Deputy Chief Chris Iannuzzi of the Durham Fire Department said firefighters were called at 8:56 a.m. to the two-story house at 2806 Wedgedale Ave., near U.S. 70 and Holloway Street.
Light smoke was visible when firefighters arrived, and they found a small fire under the kitchen floor.
Damage was limited to a small area of the kitchen floor, a small area of the ceiling below the kitchen and exterior siding, which was removed to fully expose and extinguish the flames, Iannuzzi said.
The homeowner was in the house when the fire began, and arranged for temporary housing until she can move back in.
Fire investigators were trying to determine the cause late Thursday.
Twenty-two firefighters responded to the call and were at the scene an hour and 15 minutes.
