Fire destroyed a house last night and melted part of a nearby car, but no one was hurt.
City firefighters were called at 10:39 p.m. to a two-story, split level house at 1215 Red Oak Ave., Deputy Chief Chris Iannuzzi of the Durham Fire Department said.
Flames were spreading fast from the left and rear sides of the house on both levels, he said.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control in about 15 minutes and had completely doused all flames in 35 minutes.
Fire melted the headlights and bubbled the paint on a car parked next to the house, Iannuzzi said.
No one was home at the time.
Twenty-six firefighters responded to the call, and crews worked more than three hours. The cause of the fire is being investigated today.
