Sign-up starts Monday for free dental clinic
Free dental services will be offered next month at the Durham County Department of Public Health’s Give Kids a Smile Day.
Signup begins Monday for the free exams, X-rays, cleanings, fluoride treatments and sealants for eligible Durham County children at the Feb. 7 clinic, which partners local dental professions with the health department.
“The purpose of this event is to give access to dental care for those children in Durham County who are uninsured or underinsured and without a dental home,” James R. Harris Jr., dental division director, said. “Unfortunately, in today’s economic climate, that number has the potential to increase.”
Interested parents and guardians can call to schedule appointments for their children from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Jan. 31. Appointments will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. To make an appointment, call 919-560-7680.
Appointments are available for children who are:
- Between 5 and 18 years old.
- New to the Durham County Department of Public Health’s dental clinic.
- Have no dental insurance, including Medicaid.
