Duke looks to add one more milestone tonight to a season full of history.
The No. 22 Blue Devils, having already posted a school-record 10 wins, look for their first bowl win since the 1961 Cotton Bowl when they play No. 20 Texas A&M in the Chick-fil-A Bowl (8 p.m., ESPN).
Duke (10-3) is playing in bowl games in consecutive seasons for the first time in its 101 football seasons. This is also Duke’s first winning season since 1994, and it played in the ACC championship game for the first time by winning the Coastal Division.
Tonight’s game is expected to be Duke’s most-watched football game ever. Because the game is nationally televised on New Year’s Eve with no other football games played in the same time slot, an estimated 8.65 million viewers are expected to watch.
To take advantage of that, the Durham Convention and Visitors Bureau, The Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce, and Downtown Durham Inc., have teamed with Duke to have the hashtag #GoDurham emblazoned on the Blue Devils’ coaches headsets.
Duke will face off against one of the nation’s most exciting players, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. He was last year’s Heisman Trophy winner and this will likely be his final college game. He is expected to enter the NFL Draft this spring.
