Delta Sigma Theta chapter to bring attention to human trafficking
The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will host a “Bring Back Our Girls Solidarity and Human Trafficking Awareness” event Saturday from 11a.m., to 1p.m., at the Hargraves Community Center in Chapel Hill.
The event is free and open to the public.
It is being held to bring attention to the more than 200 adolescent girls kidnapped by Boko Haram last month from their Nigerian boarding school and reportedly sold as brides for what is equivalent to $12 U.S.
The chapter hopes the community will join its effort to raise awareness about the growing issue of human trafficking not only in Nigeria but in North Carolina as well.
Abbi Tenaglia, founder of Transforming Hope Ministries, will be the featured guest speaker.
Transforming Hope Ministries is a non-profit, faith-based organization created to restore the lives of adolescent victims of human trafficking.
