Durham Tech graduation Wednesday

Nearly 950 students will receive diplomas or certificates when Durham Technical Community College holds its 2014 Commencement Exercises today at the Durham Performing Arts Center beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Of those students, 661will receive associates degrees or career certificates, while 278 will be recognized for completing the general equivalency diploma of Gateway to College Adult High School Diploma programs.  
The keynote speaker for the commencement exercise is Kennon D. Briggs, the former vice president and chief of staff of the N.C. Community College System before retiring in 2012.
Briggs, a Durham native, currently serves as a higher education consultant, a member of the UNC-Asheville board of trustees and a partner in Upswing, a technology and learning company in Durham.
William G. Ingram, Durham Tech’s president, will also address graduates and their guests.
There were 228 students named to the President’s List (for students taking a minimum of 12 curriculum credit hours receiving a GPA of 3.75 or higher) and 200 students named to the Dean’s List (for students taking 12 curriculum credit hours receiving a GPA between 3.25 and 3.74) for Spring Semester 2014.
