Truck flips, blocks lanes on Durham highway
A semi-truck flipped onto its side and blocked three lanes of N.C. Highway 55 in Durham for about an hour late Monday morning.
The accident involved the truck and three other vehicles. It happened about 11:41 near Delchester Court, north of Cornwallis Road. Four people in the truck suffered minor injuries, according to Kammie Michael, police spokeswoman.
The Durham Police Department gave this account:
The truck rolled south on N.C. Highway 55 when a northbound car tried making a left turn into an apartment complex. That car turned in front of the truck, causing the truck’s driver to lose control. The truck crossed the median and flipped on its side.
The driver of a southbound car following the truck hit the brakes to avoid the truck. That resulted in a collision with a sports utility vehicle behind the braking car.
Police charged the driver of the car making the left turn in front of the truck with failure to yield.
