Duke dorm fire displaces students
Fire burned out several Duke University students Thursday night at their East Campus dormitory. No one was hurt.
Firefighters were called at 7:39 p.m. to Brown Residence Hall at 1328 Campus Drive and saw heavy smoke on the third floor, said Deputy Chief Chris Iannuzzi of the Durham Fire Department.
They found a room engulfed in flames that destroyed its contents.
Three other dorm rooms sustained smoke damage that made them unusable, Iannuzzi said. The fire was extinguished in less than 15 minutes.
The displaced students were moved to other accommodations on campus.
Firefighters were still at the scene at 10:30 p.m., and a fire investigator was trying to determine the fire's cause.
