Seven charged in staged-accident scam
DURHAM – A staged automobile accident in Orange County in September 2012 has resulted in fraud charges for seven North Carolina residents.
The state Department of Insurance on Tuesday announced the arrests of four people accused of conspiring to defraud Greenville Casualty Insurance Company of $25,734.14 by intentionally causing an accident.
• Kendra Shanell Clark, 26, of Burlington was charged with obtaining property by false pretense, conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense and insurance fraud. She was arrested Feb. 3 and held under $30,000 bond.
• Roderick Robertson, 30, of Burlington was charged with obtaining property by false pretense, conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense and insurance fraud. He was arrested Feb. 3 and held under $30,000 bond.
• Dequana Wilson, 29, of Roxboro was charged with obtaining property by false pretense, conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense and insurance fraud. She was arrested Feb. 4 and held under $2,500 bond.
• Karena Faye Withers, 25, of Graham was charged with obtaining property by false pretense, conspiracy to obtain property by false pretense and insurance fraud. She was arrested Feb. 3 and held under $30,000 bond.
State investigators also are seeking Sherita Defaye Robertson, 34, of Whitsett; Tom Price Wiley III, 31, of Burlington; and Shneeka Withers, 30, of Mebane. Anyone with information about their whereabouts is asked to call the North Carolina Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840 or local law enforcement.

Father arrested on abuse charges
DURHAM – Authorities on Tuesday captured Jesse Antwon Lane on Colleton Road in Raleigh.
Lane, of Windlestraw Drive in Durham, was arrested on charges of felony child abuse with serious bodily injury and felony child neglect/abuse with serious physical injury.
Police announced on Monday that they were searching for Lane in connection with the serious injury of Lane’s 3-month-old son. The baby remains hospitalized.
The child’s mother and Lane’s girlfriend, Aamber Wunique Swann, was arrested Friday.

In other news:
• Tevin Leshaun Cox, 22, of Fern Street in Durham was arrested Monday and charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, selling a Schedule II controlled substance and delivering a Schedule II controlled substance. He was held in the Durham County Jail under $15,000 bond.
• Ron Christopher Jones II, 43, of Guess Road in Durham was arrested Monday and charged with assault on a campus police officer out of Wake County, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver cocaine, shoplifting, possession of drug paraphernalia, injury to personal property and larceny. He was held in the Durham County Jail under $24,000 bond.
• Ahmad Ali Rashad Plummer, 38, of Newcastle Road in Durham was arrested Monday and charged with kidnapping, common-law robbery, possession of stolen goods and communicating threats. He was released from the Durham County Jail after posting $5,000 bond.
