Durham house heavily damaged by early morning fire
Fire destroyed the second floor of a two-story house in eastern Durham early Saturday morning, fire officials said.
A firefighter was hurt.
Firefighters were called at 3 a.m. to the home at 228 Newberry Lane off Wake Forest Highway, and saw thick flames from the roof and rear, Deputy Chief Chris Iannuzzi of the Durham Fire Department said.
No one was home, and the residents are believed to be out of town, he said.
In addition to the second floor destruction, there was severe smoke and water damage to the first floor.
Iannuzzi said a firefighter injured his foot and was being evaluated.
A fire investigator was trying to pinpoint the fire’s cause Saturday.
