The Durham Diabetes Coalition and the American Diabetes Association will present several events to observe Diabetes Alert Day.

On Thursday, there will be a nutrition and diabetes presentation at CAARE Inc. at 214 Broadway St. in Durham, from 10 a.m. to noon, and an #AskDDC social media chat on Facebook and Twitter from 2 to 3 p.m. Both will feature nutrition specialists.

Both groups will host the Diabetes Health Fair from noon to 4 p.m. March 22 at CAARE. Participants will learn their risk for Type 2 diabetes through free blood sugar screenings and have access to information from local vendors and health experts.

Diabetes Alert Day will be observed March 25. Clinics at CAARE Inc., Duke Outpatient Clinic, Durham County Department of Public Health, the Durham VA Medical Center and Lincoln Community Health Center will offer information and education.

These events are part of a larger campaign led by the Durham Diabetes Coalition called “Take 2 for Type 2,” that encourages Durham County adults to take two minutes to fill out the group’s risk assessment test.
