Hit and run injures five

CHAPEL HILL – Five people were hurt by a hit-and-run driver while trying help victims of a car accident in Chapel Hill early Saturday.

The incident happened about 2:30 a.m. near Fordham Boulevard and Scarlett Drive.

Chapel Hill police found five people had been struck by a vehicle and sent them to area hospitals for treatment of what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect driver may have fled on foot or was picked up by someone passing by before officers arrived.

The investigation is ongoing.

Cocaine, biting land man in jail

DURHAM – A Durham man was arrested Saturday on drug and assault charges.

Jamario Devon Owens, 23, of Franklin Street in Durham was arrested and charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance, assault on a female and assault and battery.

According to the arrest warrant, Owens had 10 plastic bags of marijuana, hit a woman’s face and bit a man’s left arm.

For the drug charge, Owens was held in the Durham County Jail under $1,500 bond. For the assault charges, he had a $2,000 bond.
