City contains sewer spill at Bacon Street
Durham’s Department of Water Management reports that a sanitary sewer manhole was found overflowing at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday on Bacon Street.
About 2,880 gallons of sewage spilled from the manhole and discharged into an unnamed tributary of Rocky Creek.
The overflow was caused by accumulation of grease and debris. The overflow stopped at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. There were no immediately visible adverse environmental impacts or hazards to people or property, according to the city.
The N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources has been notified.
