UNC staying strong in fight to get to Final Four
North Carolina is one game away from rejoining coach Sylvia Hatchell.
UNC’s Hall of Fame coach is finishing up a season-long fight with leukemia, which is now in remission. Hatchell recently completed her final round of chemotherapy, and doctors have said she should have the strength to travel to the Final Four in Nashville this weekend if the Tar Heels make it.
Standing in No. 12 UNC’s way is No. 6 Stanford, which will have home-court advantage for Tuesday's regional final (9 p.m., ESPN). Stanford is 15-0 on its home court this season and has won nine straight NCAA Tournament games at Maples Pavilion.
The Tar Heels advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2008 with a win over top-seeded South Carolina here Sunday. It was UNC’s first win over a No. 1 seed since the Tar Heels won its only NCAA title in 1994.
