Smooth sailing forecast for Durham on the Fourth
Will it rain on Durham’s parades on the Fourth of July?
Probably not, according to forecasters.
“I don’t think Durham’s going to see much from Tropical Storm Arthur at all,” Brandon Vincent, meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said Tuesday. “I wouldn’t expect much in the way of rain or wind.”
But Durham could see rain Thursday from a different storm system. Vincent said that should end before daybreak Friday.
“The fireworks can go on,” he said.
For those planning a trip to the coast, Arthur could be a problem.
“The current track looks like it will go by Cape Hatteras early Friday morning, prior to dawn,” Vincent said. “By afternoon, it will be moving off. So conditions on the coast will be improving on Friday.”
But Thursday night could bring “a lot of rain and wind” from Wilmington to Duck, he said, so vacationers might be dealing with coastal flooding.
