Durham man charged in carjacking
The man police say stole a truck after wrecking his car near a downtown McDonald’s was in jail on Tuesday.
Kenneth Lee Bailey Jr., 21, of Durham was captured after a foot chase near North Roxboro Street and East Club Boulevard, according to Durham police spokeswoman Kammie Michaels.
Bailey’s accused of leading police on a chase from Liberty Street to Mangum and Morgan streets on April 17 before smashing through the stone walls of Rotary Park. Two women and a child were in the car at the time, police said.
Investigators say Bailey then ran to the McDonald’s on Morgan and carjacked a pickup truck that was later found on Hargrove Street.
Police charged Bailey with felony speeding to elude a law enforcement officer, misdemeanor child abuse, damage to real property, possession of cocaine and marijuana and three additional drug charges. He was held in the Durham County Jail under $200,500 bond.
Natalie Nichol Lane, 32, of Durham also was charged with misdemeanor child abuse and five drug charges in connection with this incident, Michaels said.
