Raindrops more likely than snowdrifts

Rain is expected to return to Durham on Tuesday, possibly mixed with a bit of snow, but the odds of it sticking are close to zero.

That's what forecasters are saying as the 60s and 70s over the weekend give way to more seasonable temperatures this week.

Light rain is expected to begin Tuesday afternoon, according to Kathleen Carroll, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service at N.C. State University.

The rain could end for awhile around midnight, then resume Wednesday until early afternoon, she said.

Tuesday's high is expected to be 53, with a low of 37. Wednesday will be colder, with a high of 44 and low of 25.

More rain is possible Friday night and Saturday, but no snow is expected through the weekend.

The high for Thursday and Friday should reach the 50s, with weekend highs in the 40s.

"Our normal high this time of year is around 50 or a little above, so we won't be far off," Carroll said.
