Durham police make robbery arrest

Durham police arrested a man on robbery charges this morning following an armed robbery at Tobacco Plus, 2017 Chapel Hill Road.

Officers were dispatched to a robbery call at the business at 7:23 a.m., according to a news release. Police gave this account:

An employee told officers a male armed with a long gun entered the business and demanded money. He fled when the employee pulled out a gun.

The employee fired shots and a bullet struck the back window of the suspect’s vehicle, according to investigators. No one was injured.

A short time later, a police dog tracked to the 1500 block of Chapel Hill Road where officers located a vehicle matching the description of the one used by the robbery suspect. Officers arrested Robert Miller, 53, of 1502 Chapel Hill Road and charged him with robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault by pointing a gun.
