Rivalry week is here
Rivalry time has arrived with the Duke and North Carolina women’s basketball teams kicking things off.
In a week when the Blue Devils and Tar Heels will meet twice on the basketball court, North Carolina’s women’s team travels to Cameron Indoor Stadium to play No. 5 Duke tonight (7 p.m., ESPN2).
Duke and UNC’s men’s teams will play in Chapel Hill on Wednesday night (9 p.m., ESPN/WRAL).
In women’s play, both Duke (22-2, 9-1 in ACC) and North Carolina (17-6, 5-4 ACC) resided among the nation’s top 10 teams as recently as two weeks ago.
But the Tar Heels, mired in a three-game losing streak, have fallen to No. 13. Duke, meanwhile, started the season at No. 2 but has dropped a few spots after home losses to No. 1 Connecticut and No. 2 Notre Dame.
Cameron Indoor Stadium hasn’t proven to be a good place for the UNC women’s team to find a win. UNC hasn’t won on Duke’s home floor since 2008 and hasn’t defeated the Blue Devils anywhere since 2011.
Duke will carry a seven-game winning streak in the rivalry into tonight’s game. No current UNC player was on the last Tar Heels team to beat Duke.
