3 teens arrested in armed robbery

DURHAM -- Durham police arrested three teens on robbery charges after responding to an armed robbery in progress at Soletez Boutique at 4400 North Roxboro St. Friday.

Officers were dispatched to an armed robbery in progress at the business at 5:31 p.m. Friday, an email from DPD reported. The email gave this account:

When officers arrived and announced their presence, they saw the back door to the business close. Officers entered the business and found three teens hiding in the bathroom.

Officers were told that three teens wearing bandanas over their faces and armed with guns entered the business and demanded money and shoes. They duct-taped employees’ hands and feet and were attempting to leave when officers arrived.

Officers arrested Naeem Deonte Jones, 18; Demonte Meadows, 18; and a 13-year-old juvenile. All three were charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of second-degree kidnapping and assault by pointing a gun. Meadows was also charged with possession of a stolen firearm and the juvenile was charged with possession of a firearm by a minor.

Jones and Meadows were both placed in Durham County Jail under $250,000 bonds and the juvenile was placed in a youth facility. Officers recovered three firearms.

Two Durham residents were arrested for allegedly trafficking heroin and selling it to undercover officers.

Sharika Harding, 21, of South Roxboro Street, and Van Antone McCrea, 29, of North Driver Street, both in Durham, were arrested and charged with trafficking opium or heroin, conspiracy to traffic opium or heroin.

Harding is accused of transporting more than 14 grams but less than 28 grams of heroin and of working with McCrea to traffic the drugs.

McCrea was charged with eight counts of trafficking opium or heroin, selling and delivering a schedule I controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a schedule I and schedule II controlled substance and conspiracy to traffic opium or heroin.

According to the arrest warrant, McCrea had 2 bags or heroin totaling 1.6 grams of heroin with the intent to sell and deliver along with 3 bags of cocaine totaling 7.2 grams and for conspiring with Harding.

Harding was being held in lieu of $1 million secured bond and McCrea was being held in lieu of $5 million secured bond.

 

Durham woman faces drug trafficking charges

Erica Denise Leak, 33, of Clayton Road in Durham, was arrested and charged with three counts of trafficking opium or heroin, manufacture/sell/deliver/purchase a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a public park, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the arrest warrant, Leak was near Long Meadow Park when she sold an informant 12 grams of opiates. She is also accused of trafficking 30 pills (15.6 grams) of hydrocone and 23 pills (12 grams) of oxycodone.

Leak was being held in lieu of $1.5 million bond.

 

Two charged in robbery, kidnapping of two men

Demonte Denzel Meadows, 18, of Stallings Road, and Naeem Jones, 18, of Bluestone Road, both in Durham, were arrested and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiring robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault by pointing a gun, resisting a public officer and two counts of 2nd degree kidnapping.

Meadows is also charged with possession of a stolen firearm.

According to the arrest warrant, Meadows and Jones forced the two men somewhere and robbed them at gunpoint.

The stolen items included sneakers and cash totaled $5,955.

Meadows and Jones were both being held in lieu of $250,000 secured bonds.

 

In other crime:

— Micheal McBryde, 43, of Evergreen Street in Durham, was arrested and charged with simple assault and assault by strangulation after being accused of punching Calvin Lee in the eye and strangling him. McBryde was being held in lieu of $3,500 unsecured bond.

— Calvin Lee, 49, of Green Street in Durham, was arrested and charged with simple assault after allegedly hitting Michale McBryde in the face. Lee was being held in lieu of $500 unsecured bond.

— Michael Jermaine Grace, 43, of Palmer Street in Durham, was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, simples possession of a schedule VI controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held in lieu of $4,000 secured bond.

— Clenis Herrera, 51, of Lednum Street in Durham, was arrested and charged with dentist practicing without a license after being accused of providing dental services out of her home without proper registration and licensing. She was being held in lieu of $1,500 secured bond.

— Frank Junior Rhodes, 48, of South Roxboro Street in Durham, was arrested and charged with felony possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana up to half an ounce and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held in lieu of $1,000 unsecured bond.

— Joseph Johnson Jr., 52, of Lednum Street in Durham, was arrested and charged with alter/steal/destroy criminal evidence and possession of counterfeit after allegedly destroying cocaine and having a fake $100. He was being held in lieu of $2,500 secured bond.
