Orange County Schools superintendent resigns
Orange County Schools Superintendent Gerri Martin resigned effective Monday.
During the OCS school board meeting Monday night, the board unanimously approved Martin’s letter of resignation.
Del Burns was named interim superintendent by the board. Burns served as interim superintendent before following the retirement of Patrick Rhodes, who preceded Martin.
The board also named Pam Jones the acting superintendent when Burns is out of the district. Jones is the interim auxiliary services director for Orange County Schools.
The district has not released a statement about Martin’s resignation.
Martin left McDowell County Schools where she was superintendent to come to Orange County in September.
Martin could not be reached for comment.
