Person deputy shoots man during traffic stop
ROXBORO - A man was shot by a Person County sheriff’s deputy after the man pointed a gun at the officer during a traffic stop, authorities said.
According to the Person County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Benjamin Massey shot Jovien Ross Jr., of Person County, around 12:30 a.m. near Pointer and Park Streets in Roxboro after the deputy stopped the car.
Ross got out on the passenger side of the car with a handgun in his hand and turned to fire at the deputy as he fled, Sheriff Dewey Jones said. Massey fired twice and Ross sustained injuries to his hand and leg.
Ross was treated for his injuries at Duke University Hospital.
Ross was on probation for breaking and entering and larceny. Now he faces two charges, possession of a firearm by a felon and felony assault on a government official.
Jones said that the vehicle was searched following the incident but nothing was found.
Massey is on administrative leave while the State Bureau of Investigation investigates the incident.
Henderson man sexually assaults child
DURHAM – A Vance County man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor.
Richard Lee Ault, 55, of Club Pond Road in Henderson, was arrested Saturday and charged with first degree sexual offense child, indecent liberties with a child, first degree kidnapping and assault on a child.
According to the arrest warrant, Ault sexually assaulted as well as grabbed and slapped the child.
He was being held with a $2 million secured bond.
In other crime:
-- Jaikwaun Nicholson, 17, of North Blacknall Street in Durham, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering and possession of marijuana up to half an ounce after being accused of breaking into the Main Street Townhomes on Taylor Street in Durham. Nicholson was being held with a $1,000 secured bond.
-- Brandy Holsclaw, 29, of Truce Street in Durham, was arrested and charged with breaking and/or entering, larceny after breaking and entering and injury to personal property after being accused of breaking into a residence on Holloway Street in Durham. Holsclaw is accused of taking two watches, a 36pinch flat screen television, a Blu-ray player and about 75 Playstation and Xbox videogames totaling $5,000. She is also accused of damaging the resident’s alarm system, Kindle Fire and other items totaling more than $200. She was being held with a $2,500 secured bond.
-- Andre Dejuan White, 42, of Liberty Street in Durham, was arrested and charged with injury to real property, assault on a female, simple assault and breaking or entering after allegedly grabbing a woman and pulling her to the ground and breaking into man’s home and punching him in the face. White was being held without bond for these charges. White was also charged with assault on a government official/employee and was being held with a $2,000 unsecured bond.
-- Aleyda Carmen Mendoza-Castillo, 31, of Rochelle Street in Durham, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon after she hit a pregnant woman in the forehead with a stick. The injury resulted in the woman requiring stitches. She was being held with a $1,000 secured bond.
-- Mark Brian Foster Jr., 32, of Briana Drive in Durham, was arrested and charged with breaking and/or entering and possession of burglary tools after being accused of breaking into Durham Polaris at 106 Stallings Road in Durham. He was being held with a $10,000 secured bond.
-- Amadi Markel Whitfield, 19, of East Woodcroft Parkway in Durham, was arrested and charged with breaking or entering and second degree trespassing after allegedly breaking into a building of South Terrace at Auburn Apartments where he lived. He was being held with a $1,000 secured bond.
-- Andre Rashwan Lewis, 21, of Gunter Street in Durham, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, simple possession of a schedule III controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after allegedly having 15 grams of marijuana in his possession, three tramadol pills and plastic bags with marijuana in them. Lewis was being held with a $2,000 secured bond.
