    Early voting results showed Steve Schewel held a strong lead over his opponent Farad Ali in the race to become Durham’s first new mayor in 16 years. Meanwhile, protesters hoped to engage with Schewel and Ali took to the dance floor. By the end of the night, Schewel tallied 21,262 votes (59.5 percent) and Farad Ali scored 14,334 votes (40.1 percent).

Early voting results showed Steve Schewel held a strong lead over his opponent Farad Ali in the race to become Durham’s first new mayor in 16 years. Meanwhile, protesters hoped to engage with Schewel and Ali took to the dance floor.
