Wake representative to be new TTA lawyer
State Rep. Deborah Ross, D-Wake, will replace former Durham Mayor Wib Gulley as general counsel of Triangle Transit, effective June 17.
Triangle Transit officials announced the hiring Wednesday, following a unanimous vote by the agency’s board.
Board Chairman Fred Day IV said Ross “brings a wealth of knowledge” to the job and is arriving “at an important time as we work to expand local and regional bus service” and continue planning a light-rail system.
Gulley has been Triangle Transit’s general counsel since 2004, when he resigned a N.C. Senate seat to take the job. He announced on Jan. 3 that he would retire this summer.
Like Gulley before her, Ross is leaving the General Assembly for the transit job. She represents a district that includes parts of the Wade Avenue and Wake Forest Road corridors in Raleigh.
State law requires Gov. Pat McCrory, a Republican, to appoint as her replacement in the House someone recommended by the executive committee of the Wake County Democratic Party.
