Portion of West Carver closed  Friday

DURHAM  — West Carver Street between Omah Street and Dartmouth Drive will be closed Friday beginning at 8 a.m. and lasting into the evening hours for emergency sewer line repairs.

A detour will be in place to direct motorists around the project area. Eastbound traffic on West Carver Street will be detoured south onto Hillandale Road, east onto Fawn Avenue, and then north onto Guess Road. The westbound traffic detour will be the same route in the opposite direction.

Legion auxiliary hosts supper

DURHAM -- The American Legion Auxiliary, 406 E. Trinity Ave., is hosting a supper May 3. It will include meat loaf, baked potatoes, salad, green beans and dessert.

The cost is $7 in advance or $8 at the door.  The money raised will help support Veterans, Girls’ State, Juniors and other activities of the auxiliary.

Duke Homestead plant sale May 4

Duke Homestead will celebrate the annual planting of its field of tobacco with a

Planting Day and plant sale May 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Visitors can help costumed interpreters as they transplant tobacco seedlings into the homestead’s field, or head up to the house to help start this year's kitchen garden.

Vendors will offer new seedlings or blooms, and crafts and baked goods will be for sale.

Children can take home a garden of their own at the Make and Take Garden Booth.

Duke Homestead is at 2828 Duke Homestead Road, Durham.
