Next Level Veterans Outreach Campus will host its first forum for veterans at 10 a.m. Friday at the center, 1107 Holloway St., Durham.

Captain Newborn, executive director of Next Level, said they’ve served 1,000 veterans over the past year. They focus on all veterans’ needs, he said, including housing, education, employment, financial services and post-traumatic stress disorder. The campus has multiple game and lounge areas in a big open room, and has Bingo for veterans on Wednesdays. All services are free. PNC Bank is its major funding source. The campus officially opened in August at an event honoring 104-year-old World War II veteran Samie Anderson.

Friday’s forum will feature guest speakers DeAnne Seekins, director of the Durham VA Medical Center, and Terry Morris, executive director of Veterinarians to Veterans United Inc., a nonprofit that brings together service dogs and veterans. Vets to Vets will also launch its site partnership Friday with Next Level, providing companion and therapeutic service animals and discounted veterinary care on site to veterans and military personnel suffering from depression, loneliness, PTSD, traumatic brain injuries and physical disabilities, Newborn said. Also during the forum, Newborn will lead discussion about therapeutic critical thinking, and James Alston will discuss VA claims.

Future veterans’ forums will be the first Friday of every month. The goal of the events is to connect local veterans with the VA, think tanks and those who service and advocate for veterans and U.S. military personnel.
