The N.C. Central University Police Department has released the name of the man who was fatally shot late Monday night on campus as Tracy Daquan Bost of Charlotte.

Bost has a lengthy criminal record, including resisting an officer and felony convictions for forgery, obtaining property under false prestenses, speeding to elude arrest and larceny of firearms.

NCCU police fatally shot Bost late Monday within a wooded area near the School of Education, NCCU Police Chief Timothy Bellamy said. Bost was not a NCCU student.

Bellamy said Durham police had been seeking the suspect in connection with a residential break-in, in which weapons and other property were stolen, and an armed robbery downtown that both occurred earlier Monday.

NCCU police learned a man matching the suspect’s description had gotten off a bus near campus, and they responded to the area of Cecil and Lincoln streets. The campus was locked down at 10:15 p.m.

Three NCCU officers and Bost, who police say was carrying a shotgun, exchanged fire twice.

The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating, which is standard in officer-involved shootings.
