Police log, March 25
Police on Monday identified Jeffery Lamar Dawes, 21, of Durham as the victim in Saturday’s fatal shooting.
Police say someone shot Dawes about 10:03 p.m. inside Apt. 9 at 561 Liberty Street. He was taken to Duke University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The case is under investigation as a homicide. No charges had been filed late Monday.

-- On March 4, a resident in the 2900 block of Bainbridge Drive in Durham reported a burglary. Thieves took a laptop computer, Xbox 360 gaming console, 12-gauge shotgun, shotgun ammunition, two backpacks and a wallet.
-- On March 3, a resident in the 900 block of Massey Avenue in Durham reported a burglary. Thieves took two flat-screen televisions worth about $2,600.
-- On March 14, a resident in the 4200 block of Lumley Road in Durham reported a burglary. Thieves took $3,114 worth of property, including an Xbox gaming console, 39 Xbox games, two laptop computers, two PlayStation 2 consoles, 50 PlayStation games, a knife and a watch.
-- On March 13, a resident in the 1700 block of East Cornwallis Road in Durham reported a burglary. Thieves stole shoes, a television, a necklace and $2,000 cash.
-- On March 4, a 59-year-old man was robbed in the 3300 block of Tarleton East about 2:39 p.m. Durham police investigators report that the victim was delivering Chinese food when a man wearing a black mask and armed with a gun approached with two other men and demanded money. They took a cell phone, $70 cash, fried rice, chicken wings and egg rolls.
-- On March 5, two men with guns forced a man on the floor of a building on South Alston Avenue shortly before 1 p.m. and robbed him of $400 cash, according to police.
-- On March 12, three men entered a home on Hearthside Street about 11 p.m. and said they wanted to buy snacks. Instead, investigators said, they robbed victims of $50 cash, 28 Vanilla Dutch cigars and three packs of Newport cigarettes.
-- On March 12, two teens told police they were walking on the American Tobacco Trail from school to a nearby store about 11:30 a.m. when two men approached and took a watch and phone from them. Investigators later arrested Jerrod Deshaun Spencer, 21, and Jerel Alexander Brown, 17, both of Durham and charged them with common-law robbery.
