A 61-year-old pedestrian died Monday night when he was struck by a vehicle on Guess Road, Durham police said.
He was identified as Kent Hayes of Durham.
Police said Hayes was walking across Guess Road south of Carver Street when he was hit by a 1997 Ford Ranger driven by Raymond Carden, 59, of Durham. The accident, which happened in the far-right northbound lane, was reported at 6:01 p.m.
Hayes was pronounced dead at the scene, police spokeswoman Kammie Michael said.
Investigators said Hayes was wearing dark clothing and there was no indication of excessive speed or alcohol. No charges have been filed, but the accident is still being investigated.
The northbound lanes of Guess Road were closed for several hours after the accident.
